The Documentary “Catastrophe” when the sun went out, with Prof David Keys as advisor

1. Symptoms:
1.1. Mid 6th century is dark ages in Europe.
1.2. in the years of 535 to 540 there was extreme cold, drought, famine, starvation, Cities emptied of life.
1.6. Many Crannogs, (Small wooded islands – fortified for defense by wood palisades) found in Ireland and dated to 536-540.
1.10. Whole cities died out.
1.11. 539-542 is the time that folklore has King Author dying.

Questions:
2.1. But was it a volcano, asteroid, or Comet.
2.2. If it were an asteroid it would need to be 4 km wide.  If comet it would be 6 km wide.  A comet or asteroid moving
at space velocity of about 25,000 miles per hour would strike the surface 8 sec after entering the atmosphere.

Evidence:
3.1. Based on records in 535, 536, 541 in Finland and Ireland.
3.2. Recorded in Siberia in 530.
3.3. Recorded in Germany in 536.
3.4. Recorded by Rome, which had begun re-expanding of its empire, there was about 18 months of darkness.
This same report came from Italia and Constantinople.
3.5. Japan reported people starving in 540.
3.6. About this time China reports yellow dust falling like snow. [Yellow would mean Sulfur, expect that from a volcano.]
3.7. Mike Bailey has identified Irish Oak tree rings back 7500 years. 5th and 6th century tree rings went haywire.
3.8. Professor Michael Whitley interviewed for the story.
3.9. There has been no evidence of a strike by a comet or Meteor.  A comet might break up into thousands of smaller pieces
and burn out before striking earth, leaving much dust but this documentary believes something else was the cause.

Conclusion:
4.1. A check of ice cores in both the artic and Antarctic show evidence of volcanic activity at this time.  Lots of sulfur in the
        snow.
4.2. For such a world wide coverage a volcano would have to be in the equatorial zone.  There are 90 equatorial volcanoes.
4.3. The major troubling volcano is Krakatoa in Sumatra where there are signs that Java split in two sometime in the near
         past.
4.4. A test of charcoal found in the layers of ash of Krakatoa show a date range from 6600 BC, thru 5 more layers to the
1883 explosion that killed thousands.  Seems Krakatoa blows about every 1000-1300 years.  The 1883 explosion blew
away 2/3 of the mountain.  From the day it blew up it began rebuilding itself.  Today it is called Child of Krakatoa.
