In 1581 or 1591 Thomas Ogle, by will, desired to be buried in the church of Holy Island, he mentioned his son, Henry. as executor. Oswald Ogle being a witness.6

The Ogles of Ireland
THE OGLES IN IRELAND

Sir John Ogle of Pinchbeck appears to have been the first who held land in Ireland, this was in the year 1626: his grandson Thomas died in 1711 and the administration at his estate was left to creditors,26 and as he only left daughters it does not appear that any of [the] Ogles of Ireland, belong to this family.

Thomas Ogle of Tritlington however died about the year 1648 leaving property in Dublin, Wicklow. Wexford, Kilkenny, Catherlough, Tipperary,  Queen’s county, Longford, Sligo, and Kildare to Thomas Ogle of Darras hall, who died circa 1657 leaving a son William. who lived in London and seems to have also been in Ireland and was in debt, he was living in 1695, but there is no further trace of him.  If he left no children the next heirs would be the children of George Ogle of Tritlington and London. It is probable that the following are descendants.

James Ogle of Ballylorcan, county Kilkenny, whose will was dated the 8th of April, 1714, had a brother George of Ballylurcan (whose inventory is dated 1722) married to Susannah, who is mentioned as the mother of Jonathan, Thomas, George, Letitia Lodge and Elinora Roane, the nephews and nieces of Thomas Ogle of Christ church yard, Dublin, whose 'will was declared before Samuel Ogle on the 11th of December, 1728, who had also a sister, Mariam Moylott.  Susanna Ogle is described of Killaloe, county Clare, in her will dated the 7th of December, 1742, and she mentions grandchildren of the name of Roane and her sons Samuel and George, her son Thomas of Lord George Sackville’s troop of horse, having died leaving a will dated the 20th of February, 1739, mentioning the estate he got from his father George of Ballylurcan, county Kilkenny, and his uncle Thomas Ogle, late of Christ church yard, his sister, Lettice Lodge being executrix in 1740.27 Jonathan appears to have married Mary Waldron in 1733, who as Mary Ogle of Dublin made her will Oil the 11th of January, 1794, in which she mentions her nephews and nieces Jonathan, George, Mary and Phoebe who were probably sons [and daughters] of George Ogle. This will was proved on the 26th of May, 1802.  A George Ogle and Phoebe Kent had been married in 1747.28

There was a Robert Ogle of Disantally, Westmeath, whose will is dated the 19th of June, 1699, whose wife was Mary and had an only daughter Ann.28

There was also a family living at Dysart lodge, Westmeath, viz., A Robert Ogle whose will is dated the 14th of April, 1781, leaving Elizabeth his wife and children.  A Nicholas Ogle who died on the 5th of October, 1849 at Mountrath, Queen’s county, the administration of whose estate was granted in in 1851 to Eliza Viz., for the benefit of Anne Ogle, now wife of Thomas Kennan. A Henry Ogle who died at Dysart on the 29th of September, 1859, his will was proved by Robert Ogle of the same place, the executor, on the 2nd of November, 1859.28

J. E. Ogle of the 33rd foot was severely wounded at the battle of Quatre Bras on the 16th of June, 1815,29 he died at Hull aged twenty six on the 12th of September, 1817, he was a native of Ireland, was wounded at Waterloo (sic) and interred at the Holy Trinity church.29

Henry Gordon Ogle of Wexford, died on the 4th of December, 1871, his will was proved by George Washington Ogle.

The rev. Charles Douglas Ogle of Clonmore, county Wexford. died On the 13th of March,1879 his will was proved by George Washington Ogle of Tivoli, Wexford, on the 2nd of October, 1879.28

The above and some others whose wills although extracted are not shown in the appendix may all be descended from the source shown above.

The descent of a family in Ireland from the Ogles of Eglingham has been given at page 210 and from the will of John Ogle of Waringstown, county Down, dated the 2nd of September, 1758, the seal appears similar to the crest of the Ogles of Eglingham. It is therefore possible, that the following are descendants from that family.  Elizabeth Ogle of London. whose will is dated 8 William III, seems to have had dower out of several townships in county Down; she had a son Thomas Ogle.  John Ogle of Waringstown, county Down, used as a seal on a bend 3 charges and dated his will the 1st of September, 1713, and from him three or four generations occur including another John Ogle of Waringstown whose will is dated the 23rd of July, 1777. There were also some of the same name living at Newry in the same county, George Ogle of Newry dated a codicil to his will on the 15th of October, 1781, holding lands in Lurgan and William Henry Ogle of Newry, solicitor, died on the 4th of September, 1877, possessing about £12,000. Some of these appear to have gone to the United States. They appear also to have been cousins of a family living at Lurgan, county Armagh. Bethea Ogle dated her will on the 6th of May, 1726, and had several children. Anna Ogle. wife of James Ogle of Lurgan, dated hers the 24th of September 1735, and the name occurs up to 1748 in that town and up to 1856 in Ashtown in the same county.  When Selina Frances Ogle died, and a few appear to have lived at Belfast.28  The following family is given at greater length but their origin is not known.
