THE OGLES OF DROGHEDA

I.-. . . . Ogle, may be the John Ogle of Atherdee, Louth, who on the 16th of April, 1703, administered the estate of William Ogle. ensign in Viscount Lisburn's regiment.30 (To II.)

II.- Henry Ogle or Drogheda, appears to have been an alderman of that town, he had property in the county of Meath.  His will was dated the 11th of J anuary, 1712, and proved in August following31 Verdana"> He married Sarah. (To III.)

Thomas Ogle was living in 1712 and was married.31 (To III. C.)

George Ogle was living in 1712 and was married.31 (To III. D.)

III.- Henry Ogle of Drogheda, was under age on the 11th of January,
1712, when his father by will left him his house and lands in Meath.31 His will is dated the 6th of July, 1757, and praved in February, 1758, his son William and brother-in-law Edward Meade being executors.32

He married about the 13th of December, 1721 when the marriage articles were drawn up, Catherine, daughter of James Meade; she died before her husband. (To IV.)

William Ogle, second son, was a minor in 1712, probably about ten years old. He like his father and elder brother was an alderman of Drogheda town.  His will is dated the 6th of February, 1767, and was proved on the 12th of February 1780 by the rev. William Ogle.33

He married, by licence dated in 1723, Patience meade, who is mentioned in his will. (To IV. B.)
Joseph Ogle, third son, was a minor in 171231 and also in 1725, when he was in the inventory of his estate, described as of Drogheda, a minor.

Christian, only daughter, was living in 1712.

C.- William Ogle, second son of Thomas Ogle, was living in 1712.

Henry Ogle, third son, was living in 1712.

D.- Henry Ogle eldest son of George Ogle, was living. in 1712.
William Ogle, second son, was living in 1712.31

IV.- Henry Ogle, eldest son of Henry Ogle of Drogheda, was dead on the 6th of July, 1757.32

John Ogle of Drogheda was the eldest surviving son on the 6th of July, 1757.  His will is dated the I6th of June, 1773, in which he desires to be buried in the family burying place Drogheda and leaves the greater part of his estate (that is, all except £10,000 which he gives to his two sisters) to his brother (sic) William Meade, esq., who was to take the name and the arms of Ogle; this will was proved by William Meade Ogle the same year.34

William Ogle was executor to his father in February, 1758 and was apparently dead in 1773 when his brother made his will.

Jane was on the 6th of July, 1757, already married to the rev, Robert Leavens,35 her brother, John, 16th of June 1773, granted her the sum of £5,000.

Sarah was unmarried on the 6th of July, 1757, but married it is presumed William Meade who, by the will of John Ogle of Drogheda, calls William meade his brother and leaves him all his property save £10,000 left to his two other sisters, and he was to take the name and arms of Ogle. And as William Meade Ogle he proved the will in 1773.36  He was a member of parliament, and died at Bath, on the 29th of June, 1811.37  His will was dated the 2nd of April, 1809, in which he mentions his four [wife's four] nephews of the name of Disney. His property was under £80,000 and his will was proved by the rev. William Meade Ogle on the 3rd of August, 1811.38  His wife died at Drogheda in 1790.37

Patience was unmarried on the 6th of July , 1757, she married by licence dated in 1761 Dr. Brabazon Disney, and as his wife all the 16th of Verdana"> July, 1773, her brother left her by will £5,000.39

B.- William Ogle only son was, by his father's will dated the 6th of February, 1767, granted his real and personal estate.  He took holy orders and as the rev. William Ogle proved his father's will on the 12th of February, 1780.40  He lived at Spencer hill, Louth, and made his will on the 5th of December, 1785, with a codicil dated the 1st of January, 1789,  in which he

mentions that his property was entailed on his children, this will was proved on the 18th of Junuary, 1794.41
He married by licence dated in 1771, Elizabeth Fortescue, and she is men­tioned in her husband's will, (To V.B.)

Mary married as his second wife, William Mellmoth,40 who died on the 14th of March, 1799, she died on the 4th of September, 1814.  There is a memorial in Batheaston church to William and Mary Mellmoth the daughter of William Ogle esq., of Drogheda.

          Elizabeth married Blund.40

V. William Meade Ogle is mentioned in his father's will in 1809. He was member of parliament for Drogheda on the 21st of October. 1812, and was again returned on the 6th of July, 1818.  He died on the 18th of February, 182342 the inventory of his estate was taken in Ireland and the administration of his estate was granted the same Year.43 

He married on the 16th of January, 1816, Isabella, only daughter of the rev. R. Fisher of Stone, Ireland.42 

William Meade Ogle of Merion square, Dublin, was in holy orders, and proved his fathers will on the 3rd of August, 1811.44  His own will is dated the 26th of September following in which he leaves his property to his sister. Catherine Smyth, this will was proved on the 17th of April, 1812,45  in which year he had died at his residence.42 

Catherine Meade married, by licence dated in 1783, William Smyth, she inherited her brother's property in 1812.45 

Elizabeth Meade was unmarried on the 2nd of April, 1809, She was living in Dublin when she dated her will on the 10th of February, 1849, which was proved the same year.46 

B.-... Ogle. The sons of William Ogle are not mentioned by name but they and their sisters had the property entailed upon them.47 
The daughters of, William Ogle are not mentioned by name.
